Welcome to BucksMTB

Welcome to BucksMTB Club the home of Buckinghamshire mountain biking based in the Chiltern Hills.

BucksMTB caters for everything mountain biking in the Chilterns, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and beyond.

BucksMTB was first established in 2002 and is an officially registered and insured Mountain Bike Club who is affiliated to Cycling UK (previously the CTC), BikeClub and the Cycle Chilterns project.

Conditions were perfect for our latest ride. So six keen members arrived at the top of Castle Hill for the epic Sting Bee Loop.
This was the first time some members had seen each other for a while so a bit of time was spent catching up!

Dear Club Members and local riders

We are taking the health and well-being of our members, supporters, groups and volunteers very seriously and we're following the UK Government, NHS, Public Health England and CyclingUK guidance closely.

*** This is a live document and was last updated Saturday 24 April to reflect the latest guidance in Wales.

Note that it is not possible to cover every local variation across the UK here, and you should always follow local restrictions where these are imposed.

Please note Club Member Rides are once again reintroduced and operating in-line with the new UK Government changes laid out on 29th March 2021.

Current restrictions on group rides - England

The government’s roadmap out of lockdown document set out proposed relaxations to restrictions in England on or after 29 March. These include allowing groups of up to six people, or two households, to meet outdoors, including for informal exercise.

The roadmap also indicates (para 102) that organised sports can restart, which will not be subject to the rule of six gathering limit, but should be compliant with guidance issued by national governing bodies (and Cycling UK). Sport England has subsequently published guidance confirming that organised sport and activity includes group cycle rides, so group rides of more than six are allowed from 29 March onwards under the organised sport and activity exemption.

Cycling UK’s general advice to clubs pre-Covid was to restrict group rides to a maximum of 15 people, however currently we are advising that this should be treated as an absolute maximum for group rides, not a target number, and that people should exercise some discretion and common sense depending on where they are riding.

As a Club if we have more than six riders attend a Club Ride we will split the group into two smaller groups of six or less.

Cycling with friends and family

The below guidance sets out the government rules for cycling with friends and family in each of the four nations.

The position across the UK is summarised in this graphic. For further details, see the country-specific sections below.

This ride has been a long time coming.... our first socially distanced Club members ride post-lockdown...

Despite the last few weeks of storms, conditions out there are pretty good. It may be boggy in places but a bit of mud doesn’t stop a mountain biker, it just adds to the fun!

Our first Open Group Ride of 2020 was off to a flyer with a great turn out, some areas of hard-packed frosty trails and some glorious sunshine! We had a few unfortunate no shows due to illness and the cold temperatures, but none the less we had a fantastic group of eight that took to the trails for a 15 mile singletrack and fireroad route in and around Coombe Hill. The temperature at one point hit a tropical four degrees, but what with some boggy patches of mud and some tough climbs everyone kept warm and took solace in the breaks in the clear skies and sunshine. Thank you to Scott and Mark for leading the ride, and a big thank you to everyone who came out and made the ride a huge success. Please keep an eye on our events calendar and social media for more group ride dates coming soon.

As far as I know Bike Park Wales was a first for Bucks MTB and judging by everyone's reactions from this trip it wont be the last!

After managing to get hold of a copy of a BucksMTB classic route ‘The Golden Ball Run’ we decided to host this ride with a little twist.

The BucksMTB Welsh Weekender Ride Report

It was on a club ride that someone mentioned the idea of a trip to Snowdon (im not taking the blame for that one!) and so the seed was planted…..a trip to Snowdon it would be! As we would be travelling to Snowdonia I wanted to make sure we did as many different venues as possible and the planning began.

We had a few requests to re-run our epic ‘Best of The Best’ route at Surrey Hills, so due to popular demand we were back!
