Club Trip Report
BucksMTB Forum Trip to Morzine June 2011
Our Bucks MTB Forum trip to Morzine started really really early with a 6.30am but to Heathrow T5. An early check-in in at Heathrow and a few extra quid spent on overweight baggage we treat ourselves to a stunning Weatherspoons breakfast before flying out to Geneva.
We landed about an hour late and were welcomed by more rain then we’d had in the UK! Because another aircraft has to make an emergency landing at Heathrow which delayed our departure but luckily our transfer from Ski Wiz had waited for us so we didn’t have any issues getting out of Genevre and on our way into Morzine. Our digs with Riders Retreat pretty close to the centre of Morzine and only a 3 minute ride to Le Pleney lift. The chalet is perfectly equipped for a group of riders with bike lock up, workshop and bike wash facilities. We’re self-catered so can cook what and when we like which makes a nice change from a budget continental-style breakfast with warm juice and cold tea at so many B&B’s in the area. The rooms aren’t massive but for the price range they’re fine.
BucksMTB Club Trip to Snowdon
Last year two of our Club Members, Steve and Lester, rode up and down Mount Snowdon for Charity – almost a year on since their last trip they fancied another visit to Mount Snowdon, this time to ride some different tracks too. This sounded a great idea so we decided to hold it as a club trip.
The dates were kindly set around my work roster (I travel abroad a lot) which was most considerate of all the interested riders to fit in around my hectic lifestyle. The 18th and 19th March 2011 was set as the tour date. Steve put in a lot of organising into the Club trip, arranging transport (a crew cab van) and organising a very good hostel for us to stay in on the Friday night and even offering to pick everyone up and drive both legs of the journey.
Everyone was picked up and packed up into the tour van by around one o’clock on the Friday so we headed off from Milton Keynes off up the M1 to start our long journey to Wales. The journey to Snowdon was uneventful and we were very lucky with the traffic. Excluding a lunch (and Costa stop…) we did the journey in around four hours which was very good going considering it was Friday afternoon traffic and all.
